Chapter One

I was standing in a deserted street, panting heavily, my eyes wide with fear. He saw me! I screamed in my head. It’s all over… I collapsed into a heap, exhaustion weighing me down. Tears rolled down my pale cheeks, mingling with the blood splattered around my mouth. I quickly wiped them away. What do I do? I thought frantically. Suddenly my mind went blank and a solitary thought entered my mind. Will he tell? Oh no…
My secret had gotten out and I was helpless to stop it.

I must inform Elder Sister Loreli right away! I turned and ran with inhuman speed away from the shadowy street. I glanced upward and saw the moon rising above me. Good I thought, as I sped past derelict houses, crumbling walls, and dilapidated work offices. I dashed through an alley and up the steps of a plain house with peeling paint, and ivy vines. I quickly slipped inside and briskly walked through the marble entryway to the parlor. “Home so soon?” my mother drawled. She sat comfortably in a large cushy armchair draped in red velvet. “The night has only just begun,” she purred, flipping her dark hair over her shoulder. “Where is Loreli?” I asked her urgently. “Asleep. As usual.” She said with mild amusement. “I need to speak with her.” I said quickly. “Can it not wait till she wakes Elda darling?” She said with a hint of exasperation. “No.” I said firmly. “Oh, all right then.” She said with a dismissive wave of her hand. “Thanks.” I said giving her a quick bow as I spun on my heel and headed down the dark corridor leading to my sister’s room. The door creaked open, and I tiptoed silently towards the mahogany box in the center of the room. I tapped lightly on the lid and waited, as it swung slowly open. Loreli yawned sleepily and sat up. Her silvery hair tumbled down her back and she asked me in a voice that belonged to a child, “What is it you require Elda?” Her golden eyes locked on my grey ones, as if searching for an answer in them. “Well…” I started, “I-I was very t-thirsty… and the street looked empty…so… umm… I… well that is…Kira… umm… saw… me.”
Her eyes widened in alarm. “What?” She asked me, her voice deadly. Her eyes flashed red and fury contorted her soft features. “You let him go?” She asked me sharply. “I panicked and…” I mumbled helplessly. She was livid. The window shattered, and the piano in the front room made banging sounds. She sprang out of the coffin, her hair rippling, almost silver in the moonlight, and dashed out the door. I followed her, accidentally cutting myself on the glass shards on the floor. I’ll get it later, I decided quickly, and hurried into the hall after Loreli. When I reached the sitting room, Elegia was already running around, frantically snatching things from around the room, and stuffing them into a black bag. “Elda! Why did you not inform me upon entering the house?!” She screeched. “It didn’t occur to me.” I said lamely. “It will cost you dearly, Elda. Use your head!” “I’ll be more careful next time.” I promised her. “Next time?!” She practically spat. “There won’t be a next time! We’ve been discovered!” She hissed at me, her fangs gleaming. “Grab your things Elda. Quickly.” Loreli said to me in a low voice. “No time.” Elegia said urgently. “No….” I said in a whisper, tears rolling down my pale cheeks. “I’m not leaving!” I cried out. “We don’t have a choice.” Loreli said softly. Suddenly we heard a knock on the door. Loreli froze, holding a box of matches. “Open up ya damned bloodsuckers!!!” a man bellowed from outside. Elegia opened the door a crack, and leaned out her eyes full of hate, and snarled, “die…” Suddenly she flew forward, and the man was thrown backward down the steps. “Run!” She told us. “We must find Rei. Quickly!” We must have made a spectacle, because people were watching us run. We quickly reached the small tavern where Rei worked after dark. “Wait.” Elegia held out her hand to stop us.” Ill go. Stay here.” As she slipped into the shadows, I sunk to my knees and cursed myself. Why did things have to turn out like this?

eheh... i wrote this for a bell ringer in english in the beginning of my freshman year. I THINK i have 10 chapters so far, but they are in a journal, so unless i become extremely bored, or someone requests the rest, then i probably wont put up the rest... XP Critique?
